Live traffic data and route planners
If you want to plan your travel in advance try the AA Route Planner for driving routes, or the redplanet website for door to door planning involving public and private transport (unfortunately, this does not provide cycling routes unlike the Government’s “Transport Direct” site which no longer operates). For cycle journeys, try CycleStreets
To check on road travel conditions look at the BBC Travel News, the Oxfordshire County Council Travel Map, or the Highways Agency Traffic England website, all of which show live travel data including roadworks, incidents and other travel disruptions on an interactive map. Further useful information can be found on the Oxfordshire County Council major transport projects, Top 10 roadworks and Live Travel Information pages, plus the Thames Water works page.
Plan all of your public transport journeys in the South, East and Midlands in advance on the traveline website (enquiry line 0871 2002233). Live travel data for trains and buses are available on the Oxfordshire County Council, Oxontime and National Rail websites.
The nearest train station is in Oxford and can be reached by driving straight down Botley Road for around 1 mile, or taking any of the buses from Botley heading into Oxford. Further information about rail travel can be found on the National Rail website (enquiries 08457 484950), and you can buy tickets from the trainline website, or check out the advice (including a useful beginners’ guide) on The man in seat sixty-one website.
The main bus routes into Oxford are operated by Stagecoach (which also operates the Oxford Tube service from Oxford to London) and the Oxford Bus Company (which also operates routes between Park & Ride sites, and from Oxford into London and to Heathrow and Gatwick Airports). You can check out the main routes and bus stops on the bus map provided by transport paradise. Another company that operates services locally is Heyfordian Travel (No.44 timetable from Abingdon to Oxford).
